It has been found to be an effective treatment option for primarily orthopaedic conditions and tendon injuries. Shockwave therapy is conducted by our experienced and qualified physiotherapists. It uses a pneumatically powered handpiece that generates radial shockwaves. This is transmitted into the injury site through a conducting gel.
Not only does shockwave therapy provide pain relief, but it is also useful for promoting tendon repair by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels into the tissues. This increases cell proliferation, promotes growth factors, mobilises stem cells and decreases inflammation.
What is it used for?
Sports Focus Physiotherapy has been using shockwave therapy for many years as a treatment option for painful chronic conditions, including plantar fasciitis and Achilles heel pain. We’ve seen very positive results when pain resolution fails using traditional management and treatment.
We have found shockwave therapy to be effective in the treatment of:
- Heel pain and heel spurs
- Bursitis
- Tennis and golfer’s elbow
- Plantar fasciitis
- Tendonitis and tendinopathies
- Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
- Arch pain
- Metatarsalgia
- Synovitis
- Non-healing stress fracturesshock
By varying the spread and intensity of the sound waves, your physio can also target muscle pain and promote the healing of ligaments and tendons. This helps you to return to optimal health after an injury.
Shockwave therapy can be a great alternative to surgical intervention and can often treat stubborn, recalcitrant conditions.
