Benefits of regular exercise
Keeping active can help ensure that your body’s systems are running optimally. Some major benefits of exercise include lower blood pressure and cholesterol, better heart health, improved balance, increased muscle and bone strength, and lower risk of dementia and type 2 diabetes. Most importantly, exercise contributes to better quality of life as it improves your mood, increases your energy levels and helps you sleep better at night!
How much physical activity do we need?
Australia’s Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per day, with 45-60 minutes of cumulative daily activity being preferred. Exercise intensity refers to the amount of physical power that the body uses when performing an activity. Moderate intensity is generally when you’re working hard enough to have a slight shortness of breath, but you can keep up conversation.
What is the best physical activity?
The best exercise is the one that appeals most to you. Choose something you enjoy that will enable you to keep to the recommended daily 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise.
