DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage is available at CBD 428 George physiotherapy practice.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is an effective treatment that targets the deeper layers of muscles and fascia in your body – leading to great results for pain reduction. Our experienced physiotherapists will use this treatment to assist you with your injuries.
At CBD Physio, we are big proponents of the benefits of deep tissue massage and sports massage Sydney.
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
- Deep tissue massage is a massage style that realigns the deeper layers of the muscles and connective tissue to assist with sports injuries and relieve pain. It is similar to traditional remedial massage therapy in style but affects deeper tissue with slower and more concentrated movements.

How Does Deep Tissue Massage Work?
- In the case of chronic muscle tension or injury, adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) are often present in the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
- These adhesions block circulation and cause pain – often leading to inflammation and limited movement of the affected area. Deep tissue massage breaks down the adhesions, relieving the discomfort and making natural movement possible again.
Does It Hurt?
- People generally feel some pain or discomfort as they are not used to the strong pressure applied during deep tissue massage. It is important to tell your therapist if pain becomes uncomfortable at any stage of the massage. After a deep tissue massage, it is common for there to be some pain in the affected area for a day or two. Your physiotherapist may recommend using ice on the area after treatment.
What Will Happen During My Consultation?
- Our physio will apply pressure using their hands, knuckles, elbows and forearms. At times, they will ask you to breathe deeply while they apply pressure to very tense areas. It’s recommended you stay hydrated and drink a lot of water after your massage – it helps to flush metabolic waste from the tissues after the massage has dislodged them.
