Pilates is a great option for:
- Injury prevention
- Improving balance
- Relieving neck and lower back pain
- General fitness and strength
- Managing knee and hip injuries
- Injury rehabilitation
- Improving posture
Pilates targets the core muscles to help correct muscle imbalances that may be present, including weakness, activation issues and overactivity. It also helps improve muscular control and encourages correct movement patterns. Without this, you may be prone to:
- Poor posture
- Sports injuries
- Neck and lower back pain
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Chronic pain
Why do Pilates?
Our Sydney Pilates classes are run by experienced physiotherapists who tailor their program according to your specific goals and needs. Our classes encourage you to take control of your muscles, allowing the joints to hold optimal positions. This can only happen when the moving muscles and stabilising muscles work in balance. This reduces the wear and tear on your joints, allowing you to move smoothly and efficiently. Pilates helps you to activate and control these muscles, improving the way your body functions.
The stabiliser muscles include:
- Pelvic floor
- Transverse abdominal muscle
- Rhomboid muscles (middle and upper back)
- Diaphragm – breathing muscle!
- Deep neck flexors
- Multifidus – deep back muscles
It is well know that lower back pain can be aggravated due to poor functioning of the deep trunk musculature. Similarly, neck pain can be a result of poor functioning of the deep neck flexors. This pain can affect the ability of the stabiliser muscles to work at all; but never fear; this condition can be improved with a personalised Pilates program.
